1995 Volnay Les Carelles Jean-Marc Bouley
Medium ruby colour - bright, clean; aromas are delicate - good cherry fruit, and a bit of oak ; Only medium bodied - considerable tannins - cherry flavors show through, and on through the finish. Attractive wine - still needs some time to round out the tannins, and develop some bouquet.

1995 Vosne-Romanee Clos de la Fontaine Michel Gros
Medium ruby colour - very clear and bright ; Scented aromas - persistent - fruity ; tannins are soft - very good acidity - full cherry flavors, with a lingering finish. Best guess is that it needs another 4 years to soften the acidity. Fruit should hold well. The wine shows some definite class.

1995 Echezeaux Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (Magnum)
Deeper ruby colour than the above two wines. Pronounced warm, spicey oak/tree fruit aromas ; big and round on the palate - quite forward - tannins are soft - a velvety texture - toasty dark cherry flavours ; lingering finish - fruit and oak.

1995 Clos de la Roche Georges Lignier
Darkest colour of all of the wines tasted; clean, bright ruby ; elegant, sophisticated aromas, showing dark cherry, a bit of oak ; tannins are quite soft, but are definitely present; acidity shows through, but the fruit is very big - long cherry/oak finish. Quite a surprise - excellent wine, with a most promising future.

1995 Echezeaux Gerard Mugneret
Quite dark - almost as dark as the previous wine - very bright, clean ruby in colour ; Nose is quite subdued, and stayed that way over the next hour ; wonderful, rich flavours - spicey/oak/dark cherry. An extremely long, pleasing finish. The aromas should develop with time, but this looks like a remarkable wine for the long term.

1995 Gevrey-Chambertin Combe aux Moines - Rene Leclerc
| Dark ruby colour; on swirling it appears to be heavier and fuller than the other wines ; the aromas are full of spices/cedar/dark cherry fruit - lingers in the nostrils ; Round and full on the palate, with soft tannins; fruit is dominant on the palate, and extyends well into a long, long finish. Most attractive!
The last three wines were clearly the favorites of the 25 tasters. Each wine had strong support. Nonetheless, all of the wines showed extremely well - particularly as all are very young, and the future prospects for each are excellent. The DRC Echezeaux seemed almost ready to drink, although it will develop more in the aromas and flavours with time. The Gevrey-Chambertin was big and fleshy on the palate. It, too, will improve with time in the bottle. The Clos de la Roche was a bit of a surprise - it showed so well. The Echezeaux from Mugneret was also extremely attractive . Had its aromas been more forward, it probably would have been the favorite, instead of sharing honours with the Clos de la Roche. The Gevrey-Chambertin is probably one of Leclerc's best efforts, displaying excellent fruit, with the oak being underplayed.
